New OCOM Acupuncture Clinic Opens in the Hollywood Neighborhood

Residents of the Hollywood neighborhood and Northeast Portland have a new option for affordable health care with the opening of the OCOM Hollywood Clinic. The clinic, a branch of Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM), a Traditional Chinese Medicine master’s and doctoral degree institution, will provide $25 acupuncture treatments, as well as shiatsu massage and herbal prescriptions to community members. Treatments are given by students in their third year of OCOM’s intensive master’s training program, and overseen by the college’s skilled faculty members.

According to Brooke Alsaker, the Patient Services Team Lead, the clinic will serve up to 40 patients each day. “Our new location provides great access for patients throughout the inner east side of Portland. Our clinic allows residents to receive low-cost, preventive treatment in a time when medical costs are rising.”

The OCOM Hollywood Clinic opened September 14 in a building at the corner of NE Cesar E Chavez Boulevard and Tillamook Street, bringing life back to a building that sat empty for years. OCOM invites the community to join us in celebrating the new space on October 12, between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM, for an Open House event, which will include free demonstrations, information about Chinese Medicine, and an opportunity to meet Hollywood’s newest neighbors.

Oregon College of Oriental Medicine was founded in 1983, making it the third oldest college of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in the United States. The college offers two specialized degree programs – a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAcOM) and Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM). The college campus is currently located in southeast Portland, but will soon be relocating to a new campus in Portland’s Old Town Chinatown neighborhood.

General appointments for the OCOM Hollywood Clinic can be made by calling 503-281-1917 or e-mailing hollywoodclinic@ocom.edu. The clinic is open Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, and is located at 2029 NE Cesar E Chavez Blvd, Portland, OR 97212.
